Area residents receive behavioral sciences, social sciences and economics awards from Birmingham-Southern College

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Six Birmingham-Southern students were presented awards by the college's areas of behavioral sciences, social sciences and economics during the 2010 Honors Day Convocation. Listed alphabetically by hometown and award, they are:

BIRMINGHAM Area:
West: Dana Bryant from Fairfield - Edward Chase Tolman Award, presented by the psychology faculty to a senior psychology student who has integrated the study of psychology with the study of other fields and disciplines and exemplified the ideals of the liberal arts and sciences.

CHATTANOOGA, TENN.: Megan Knauss - Edward Chase Tolman Award, presented by the psychology faculty to a senior psychology student who has integrated the study of psychology with the study of other fields and disciplines and exemplified the ideals of the liberal arts and sciences.

DECATUR: William Breland - David J. Vann Award in Political Science, awarded by the college's area of behavioral and social sciences and named for the former mayor of Birmingham. It is given to an outstanding junior political science major who has demonstrated a commitment to public service.

FLORENCE: Wesley Akin - BSC Outstanding Economics Senior Award, sponsored by the college's area of economics and presented to a senior economics major based upon merit, character, and potential for success.

KINGWOOD, TEXAS: Caitlin Dees - Edward Chase Tolman Award, presented by the psychology faculty to a senior psychology student who has integrated the study of psychology with the study of other fields and disciplines and exemplified the ideals of the liberal arts and sciences.

MONTGOMERY: Jacob Conner - BSC Outstanding Economics Junior Award, sponsored by the college's area of economics and presented to a junior economics major based upon merit, character, and potential for success.
