Birmingham-Southern students receive top academic awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Birmingham-Southern College seniors Kathleen Smith of Hixson, Tenn., and James Randolph of Anniston are the recipients of the Alpha Lambda Delta Book Award, the Phi Eta Sigma Senior Award, and the Robert Hewlin Jackson Meritorious Scholarship Award. All were presented during the college's 2010 Honors Day Convocation.

The Alpha Lambda Delta Book Award is given to graduating members of the chapter who have maintained the highest grade-point average throughout their college career.

The Phi Eta Sigma Senior Award is given to graduating members of the chapter who have maintained the highest grade-point average throughout their college career.

The Robert Hewlin Jackson Meritorious Scholarship Award, given in memory of the 1862 graduate of Southern University, recognizes graduating seniors who have achieved the highest grade-point average during their four-year college career.

Randolph is a history major and the son of Dr. Christopher and Mary Randolph.

Smith is an interdisciplinary philosophy/political science/economics major and the daughter of Scott and Margaret Smith.
