Local residents receive scholarship award at Birmingham-Southern College

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Birmingham-Southern students Steven Carter of Enterprise and Corey Decker of Kinsey are the recipients of the Turnipseed-Ikenberry Scholarship presented during the college's 2010 Honors Day Convocation. The award is presented to juniors or seniors demonstrating high academic achievement majoring in physics, mathematics, history, French or German. It is renewable for one year.

The scholarship was established by the late Dr. Ernest Ikenberry and his wife, Janice Turnipseed Ikenberry, in tribute to her ancestors. Her great-grandfather, John Walton, was a founder of Southern University at Greensboro, and her grandfather was a longtime trustee. Both her parents were graduates of the college.

Carter is a physics major and the son of William and Angela Carter.

Decker is a history major in the college's Harrison Honors Program and the daughter of Charles and Joanne Decker.
