Local students receive teaching award at Birmingham-Southern College

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Birmingham-Southern seniors Kristin Hendricks of Hueytown and Natasha Stark of Kendall, Wis., are the recipients of the Rutherford Ray Black Teaching Award presented during the college's 2010 Honors Day Convocation.

The award, which is presented to graduating seniors in teacher education who have demonstrated outstanding teaching ability, scholarship, and leadership, memorializes Black, who was a Birmingham-Southern education professor and 1930 graduate of the college.

Hendricks, a student in the BSC Harrison Honors Program, is the daughter of Tracey Smith.

Stark is the daughter of David and Georgina Stark.
