Birmingham-Southern College student places first at calculus competition

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern senior Xinyan Yan won first prize at the MathFest Calculus Competition held Feb. 6 at Troy University Montgomery Campus.

The contest is the only undergraduate mathematics competition held in the state of Alabama. A total of 16 BSC students made presentations at the MathFest.

Yan is a math major from Zhengzhou, China.
