Birmingham-Southern to host Alumni Reunion, Homecoming weekend Nov. 6-7

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Birmingham-Southern College will host its Alumni Reunion and Homecoming weekend Nov. 6-7. The “Let the Good Times Roll” weekend of events will take place on the college's Hilltop campus and will feature a number of activities and events, including an all-alumni service project. Also included among the festivities will be the dedication of the new BSC Urban Environmental Park and the inaugural Wesley Cup Homecoming football game versus Huntingdon College.

The donor-funded lake park serves as a leisure-time and recreational activity area for students as well as provides a wealth of hands-on learning for students, especially those in the new Urban Environmental Studies major. The park, including a 1.5 acre lake, has been added to the natural setting of BSC's wooded campus and includes an amphitheatre, walkways, a fountain, and rain gardens for storm water management.

The all-alumni service project, Hope from the Hilltop, is an initiative to gather much needed toiletry items for folks served by Urban Ministry in Birmingham. Alumni are asked to fill a single plastic grocery bag with full-size toiletry items such as shampoo, bars of soap, toothpaste, razors and lotion and deliver the filled bag to the BSC campus. The filled bags will be donated to Urban Ministry for distribution to its shelter residents.

This year's Homecoming/Reunion will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the BSC Master's in Public and Private Management program (MPPM) as well as the 25th reunion celebration of the college's newly renamed Donald C. Harrison Honor's Program.

A highlight of the weekend-long festivities will include the inaugural Wesley Cup Homecoming football game between BSC and Huntingdon College on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1:30 p.m. It will be preceded by the Panther Walk of the BSC football team at 11:30 a.m.

Other planned activities throughout the weekend include an Alumni Awards Luncheon and the BSC Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet. Also, alumni reunion class parties will be held on Friday night during the Party on the Quad. Traditional events include the President's Reception, an “unplugged” session featuring BSC President Dr. David Pollick and Dr. Mark Schantz, the college's new provost, and a host of other activities for family enjoyment.
