Talladega native receives Birmingham-Southern College award

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern student Claire Davis of Talladega is the recipient of the endowed Hubbs Award presented during the college's 2009 Honors Day Convocation.

The scholarship was first awarded in 2006 by the family of LaMar and Louise Hubbs, parents of Guy Hubbs who is a BSC associate professor of library science and college archivist, to mark the Sesquicentennial year of the college. The purpose of the award is to honor the student who best exemplifies the twin principles upon which Birmingham-Southern College was founded: academic excellence and selfless service.

A senior independent studies/human rights in America major, Davis is the daughter of Catherine Smith Davis.
