Northern Shelby resident receives scholarship award at Birmingham-Southern College

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—For the second consecutive year, Mary Foster of Northern Shelby is the recipient of the Ursula Clark Parson Scholarship award presented during the college's 2009 Honors Day Convocation.

The award memorializes the mother of late distinguished alumna Mary Jean Parson who was a 1956 Phi Beta Kappa graduate and later a leader in the Birmingham arts community. It is given to a worthy female in her sophomore or junior year who is interested in the field of creative writing.

Foster, a sophomore undeclared major, is the daughter of Gary and Holly Foster.
