Alumnus Joshua South in recital, master class at Birmingham-Southern
March 12-13

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern alumnus and baritone Joshua South returns from New York City on March 12 to perform Schubert's last and best-known song cycle “Winterreise.”

The 7:30 p.m. recital in Hill Recital Hall on campus is free and open to the public.

With a voice described as “unforgettable” by “The New York Times,” South will sing this heart-rending portrayal of a winter journey based on the evocative poetry of German lyricist Wilhelm Mueller.

He will be joined by BSC professor of music and Artist in Residence William DeVan on piano.

South will present a master class for BSC voice students on March 13. The 2002 BSC graduate will provide insight into the interpretive performance practices of German Lieder, while sharing experiences from his journey as a young professional singer.

This event is part of the Hugh and Barbara Thomas Master Class Series presented by Thomas and Jennifer Waters.
