Birmingham-Southern announces chair of Arts Council

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Angela Comfort of Homewood, who is a 1979 BSC alumna, will serve as chair of the 2008-09 Birmingham-Southern College Arts Council.

Joining Comfort in service on the council are committee chairpersons Lucy Tutwiler of Mountain Brook, theatre committee; Melinda Underwood of Homewood, music committee; Elisebeth Bashinsky of Mountain Brook, dance committee; and Dr. Don Stewart of Homewood, visual arts committee.

The BSC Arts Council, formed in 1980, consists of volunteers who assist the college staff in building Fine Arts Society membership as well as hospitality for arts receptions and events.

The mission of the BSC Fine Arts Society is to encourage community support of the college's visual and performing arts programs. Members of the society are patrons of the arts and dedicated to preserving and advancing the arts and artists at Birmingham-Southern, including support of the efforts of the college's student performers.
