Rising high school seniors to engage in week of leadership training at Birmingham-Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern College will host 26 high school students from 11 states in a week-long residential program called Student Leaders in Service June 8-13.

The rising high school seniors will learn about leadership, service-learning, and active citizenship through classroom activities, simulations, service projects, and other activities. Some of these include a ropes course and other team-building exercises; a poverty workshop led by Tom Duley, executive director of Urban Ministry; and an activity to learn about the grant-making process.

Students will arrive on campus the afternoon of June 8 and will be housed in BSC residence halls during the program. They will depart the afternoon of June 13. The program is coordinated through The Bunting Center for Engaged Study and Community Action at BSC.
