Local student receives teaching award at Birmingham-Southern College

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern student Kathleen Coleman of Columbus, Miss., is the recipient of the Rutherford Ray Black Teaching Award presented during the college's 2008 Honors Day Convocation.

The award, which is presented to a graduating senior in teacher education who has demonstrated outstanding teaching ability, scholarship, and leadership, memorializes Black, who was a Birmingham-Southern education professor and 1930 graduate of the college.

Coleman, an elementary/collaborative education major, is the daughter of Geraldine Coleman. She will graduate from Birmingham-Southern May 18.
