Birmingham-Southern College students recognized for service-learning involvement

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Four Birmingham-Southern College students received the Christopher T. Morgan Scholarship Award during the college's 2008 Honors Day Convocation.

The award, which offers assistance to students who plan to participate in service-learning projects while in college, was established in 1998 in memory of Morgan, a 1990 Birmingham-Southern graduate who died of cancer. As a student, Morgan was actively involved with service-learning trips to Bolivia and Zimbabwe and with ministries on campus at Yeilding Chapel.

The BSC Bunting Center for Engaged Study & Community Action provides student leadership and service opportunities locally, nationally, and internationally.

The students, listed by hometown, are:

Vishwanath Danthuluri of Madison, a junior interdisciplinary biology/psychology major and the son of Naga and Sita Danthuluri.

Corinna Herndon Ray of Montrose, a sophomore art-printmaking major and the daughter of William and Mary Ray.

Allison Rose Schuver of Gadsden, a senior English major and the daughter of Michael and Dianne Schuver.

Miriam Ann Smith of Mountain Brook, a senior English major and the daughter of Nathan and Nancy Smith.
