Montgomery native presented with Birmingham-Southern leadership award

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern senior Melissa Carol Golson of Montgomery is the recipient of the Hess Award for Leadership and Service presented during the college's 2008 Honors Day Convocation.

The award, sponsored by the college's Hess Center for Leadership and Service, recognizes a student who exemplifies a commitment to leadership and community responsibility. The Hess Center coordinates campus volunteers and provides student leadership and service opportunities locally, nationally, and internationally.

Golson is a political science major and the daughter of William and Kathy Golson. She will graduate from the college May 18.
