Birmingham-Southern senior to present composition recital

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern College student Shaundrin Elliott of Cordova, Tenn., will present her senior composition recital April 24 in the Hill Recital Hall on the BSC campus at 7:30 p.m.

The recital, which will feature the BSC One A-Chord Gospel Choir, BSC Jazz Band, and members of the BSC Concert Choir, will consist solely of musical pieces composed by Elliott during her four-year academic career at the college.

The recital program will include a mixture of jazz, classical and gospel pieces for both chamber and vocal ensembles. Performers include: soprano Shelby Bowling, a junior music major from Daphne; cellist Lori Cheng, a senior art/art history major from Homewood; tenor Dedric Cowser, a senior religion major from Centre; pianist Virginia Dismukes, BSC adjunct music faculty; violinist Michael Johnston, a senior math major from Shorewood, Wis.; alto Megan Knauss, a sophomore undecided major from Chattanooga, Tenn.; clarinetist Meagan Langford, a senior music major from Hueytown; bass Seth Pickle, a junior music major from Morris; violinist Karen Bentley Pollick, of College Hills; alto Tyner Rushing, a senior music major from Semmes; tenor Patrick Scott, a senior music performance major from Picayune, Miss.; bass David Talley, a junior music performance major from Pleasant Grove; and pianist Sirena Wang, a senior music major from Huntsville.

Elliott, a music composition major, is a student of BSC Professor of Music Dr. Charles Mason and BSC Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Dorothy Hindman. She is the daughter of Sandra Richards of Cordova, Tenn.

The BSC Jazz Band is under the direction of BSC Director of Bands Dr. Ron Hooten. The BSC One A-Chord Gospel Choir is under the direction of Antoine Andrews.
