Hugh and Barbara Thomas Master Class Series at Birmingham-Southern to feature lecture and concert by Johns Hopkins faculty

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Hugh and Barbara Thomas Master Class Series at Birmingham-Southern College will present guest artists Dr. Steven Rainbolt and Dr. Robert Muckenfuss. The two-day series will include a lecture for BSC voice students by both artists on April 5 at 10 a.m. and a voice concert April 4 at 7:30 p.m. Both will take place in the BSC Hill Recital Hall.

Performing with the guest artists at the Friday night concert will be soprano and BSC associate professor of music Dr. Jacqueline Leary-Warsaw. The three will provide an evening of operatic arias, duets and songs including works by Purcell, Mozart, Monteverdi, Arne, Ravel, Quilter, R. Strauss, Laitman, Creston, and other composers.

Rainbolt and Muckenfuss are distinguished members of the faculty at the Peabody Conservatory of Music at Johns Hopkins University.

Rainbolt, a baritone, has performed extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe. He made is European operatic debut with Mstislav Rostropovich in a contemporary premiere at the Evian Festival in France. His recordings are available on the Viva! Productions label.

Muckenfuss, a pianist, is a renowned vocal coach and accompanist for many of the world's most notable singers including David Daniels, Benita Valente, William Sharp, and Frederica von Stade. He has served as pianist for the Broadway musicals “Titanic” and “The Dead.” His recordings are available under the Telarc, Koch, and Via! Productions labels.
