Award-winning Birmingham-Southern students to perform with local orchestra

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Three student winners of the eighth annual Whittington Competition at Birmingham-Southern College will perform with the Red Mountain Chamber Orchestra Feb. 17 in the college's Hill Recital Hall at 3 p.m.

The orchestra, under the direction of BSC alumnus Mark Ridings, will accompany the 2007 Whittington Competition winners, who are vocalist Shelby Claire Bowling, a junior vocal performance major from Mobile; pianist Anna Underwood, a junior music major from Homewood; and pianist Sirena Wang, a senior international business/music major from Madison.

The Whittington Competition is named for Frances and Dorsey Whittington, who were leaders of The Birmingham Conservatory of Music which later became the Music Department at Birmingham-Southern.
