Hugh and Barbara Thomas Master Class Series lecture and concert Feb. 14-15 at Birmingham-Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Hugh and Barbara Thomas Master Class Series at Birmingham-Southern College will present composer Martin Bresnick and pianist Lisa Moore. The two-day series will include a lecture by Bresnick on Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. and a concert Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. Both will take place in the BSC Hill Recital Hall.

Special guests performing at the Friday night concert will be violinist Karen Bentley Pollick, mezzo soprano Nadine Whitney, and the Sursum Corda choir directed by Lester Seigel, who is the Joseph Hugh Thomas Professor of Music at BSC.

Bresnick is recognized as an influential teacher of composition and currently teaches at the Yale School of Music. He has received the Rome Prize, Berlin Prize, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and Koussevitzky commission, among others.

Moore is described by “The New York Times” as “lustrous at the keyboard” and a “phenomenal pianist.” She currently has four solo recordings and 30 other chamber recordings on national and international labels.
