Birmingham-Southern College student awarded international art scholarship through local church

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Birmingham-Southern College freshman Jasmine Higbee was recently awarded a scholarship from the International Art Grant program at the Church of Brook Hills in Birmingham. Higbee, one of 11 students from local colleges and universities who participated in the program at the church, will receive $2,500 toward her art education at the college.

In addition to the scholarship, Higbee has won an interactive workshop for the art department at Birmingham-Southern. The college is receiving a one-day workshop with renowned documentary photojournalist Ryan Spencer Reed, who is most known for his photography in Darfur. The workshop is expected to take place next spring.

Higbee, of Northern Shelby County, is a graduate of the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham. She is the daughter of Gordon and Meg Higbee.
