Birmingham-Southern College theatre to perform colorful, eccentric Shakespeare production set in the 1960s

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern College Department of Theatre and Dance will perform “Taming of the Shrew” by William Shakespeare on campus Nov. 8-11. Set amidst the craziness, chaos and culture shock of the 1960s, the classic comedy will feature more than 50 costumes and a large go-go dance wedding celebration.

The production features the work of students including designers, an assistant director, stage manager, building and scene painting, work on costumes and lighting, and choreography. The production company, a total of 43 students, includes a cast of 23 actors on stage.

Performances are Nov. 8-10 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 11 at 2:30 p.m. in the BSC College Theatre Mainstage. General admission tickets are $10; $5 for students. For tickets and additional information, contact the College Theatre Box Office at 205/226-4780.
