Birmingham-Southern professor recognized as exemplary teacher by United Methodist Church

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Edward LaMonte, the Howell Heflin Professor of Political Science and Director of the Office of International Programs at Birmingham-Southern College, has been presented with the Exemplary Teaching Award by the Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry of the United Methodist Church.

The award is presented annually to a BSC professor who is “characterized by excellence in teaching; civility and concern for students and colleagues; commitment to value-centered education; and service to students, the institution, the community, or the church.”

Joining the Birmingham-Southern faculty in 1987, LaMonte holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard College and a master's and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
