Birmingham-Southern College named one of America's Best

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern College is one of 26 private institutions in the nation chosen to qualify as a Best Buy in the latest edition of the “Fiske Guide to Colleges 2008.” According to the recently released guidebook, the college's selection is based on the quality of academic offerings in relation to the cost of attendance.

The popular guidebook states that BSC is “One of the Deep South's best liberal arts colleges . . . and a throwback to the way college used to be.” It is rated as solid academically as meeting the criteria for the top 10 percent of colleges and universities in the nation.

Compiled by Edward B. Fiske, an internationally known education writer and editor and formerly the education editor for “The New York Times,” the 24th edition of the annual sourcebook is now available in bookstores and online.

Birmingham-Southern is a four-year, private liberal arts college founded in 1856 and affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
