Birmingham-Southern College Southern Chorale and Hilltop Singers to present annual spring concerts

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Southern Chorale of Birmingham-Southern College, under the direction of BSC Professor of Music Dr. David J. Smith, will presents its annual spring concert Monday, May 7, in Hill Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. The performance will include the Cantata “Christ Lag in Todesbanden,” BWV 4, by Johann Sebastian Bach, as well as selections from the musical “Carousel” by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.

On Tuesday, May 8, the Birmingham-Southern College Hilltop Singers, under the direction of Dr. Lester Seigel, BSC Joseph Hugh Thomas Professor of Music, will present its season finale in Hill Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. Selections by the vocal jazz ensemble will include pieces by The Real Group, New York Voices, Manhattan Transfer, and classics by Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Paul Simon and more. Featured will be the traditional “senior solos” of graduating seniors in the group.

The public is cordially invited to attend both concerts, and admission is free.
