Birmingham-Southern alumna and Huntsville native to deliver keynote address at college's Honors Day

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern College alumna Jill Balch Coon, current director of education and programs for Enact, Inc. in New York City, will deliver the keynote address at the college's annual Honors Day Convocation Thursday, April 26. Honors Day is a celebration of the year's academic accomplishments at Birmingham-Southern.

A 1992 BSC English and theatre graduate, Coon will deliver the annual Honors Convocation address at 10 a.m. in Munger Hall Auditorium.

After graduating from BSC, she earned a masters in fine arts from the University of Florida. In addition to acting credits for numerous roles, she taught professional theatre arts with an emphasis on drama, theatre, acting and speech at Birmingham-Southern, the University of Alabama, and the University of Florida. In her current position at Enact, Inc., a major non-profit arts education organization that teaches social emotional communication skills to troubled, at-risk children and their families, she oversees the design and development of educational programs that train 11,000 participants each year and is taught in over 400 New York City public schools in some of the city's toughest neighborhoods.

In addition to the Honors Day Convocation which will include a processional of graduating seniors and faculty in cap and gown, the day will feature academic awards presented to outstanding students in each of the six academic areas and a demonstration of scholarship and creative works by students and faculty.
