Birmingham-Southern students to present work at regional honors' conference

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Thirteen students, the largest number to date from Birmingham-Southern College, have been selected to take part in the 35th annual conference of the Southern Regional Honors Council. This year's conference, “Curiosity: The Spirit of Honors Inquiry,” will take place March 29-31 in Charlotte, N.C.

One of six regional councils of the National Collegiate Honors Council, the Southern Regional includes 10 states. The purpose is to support and promote honors education.

Students submitted abstracts to the conference committee for consideration. All BSC students who applied were accepted. They will attend the conference to present papers and to attend sessions on honors programming. Listed alphabetically by hometown, they are:

BIRMINGHAM: Clay Foster, a senior biology major, Spanish minor from Pinson; Kelly Frey, a senior biology major from Huffman; Ben Miller, a sophomore undecided major from Hoover; Susanna Miller, a sophomore English major from College Hills; Marc Parker, a sophomore international studies major from Thorsby; and Whitney Williams, a sophomore undecided major from Gardendale.

DECATUR: Carson Land, a junior history major; and Meredith Wiggins, a freshman English major.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.: Forrest Boughner, a sophomore history major.

FORTSON, Ga.: Bonnie McClure, a senior music major.

HUNTSVILLE: Rosalynn Fairless, a senior music/international studies major.

LAGRANGE, Ga.: Paul Blom, a senior English major.

LOUISVILLE, Ky.: Laura Chaires, a freshman undecided major.
