News from the HilltopFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Birmingham-Southern president to take part in Council of Independent Colleges' conferenceBIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern President Dr. David Pollick will take part in the “Uncovering the Heart of Education: Integrative Learning for Compassionate Action in an Interconnected World” Conference sponsored by The Council of Independent Colleges Feb. 22-25 in San Francisco. He will co-lead a pre-conference workshop on Feb. 22 entitled “The Heart of Leadership: Vocation and Values.” On Feb. 24, Pollick will serve as session facilitator for the “Global Dignity: Rethinking the Purpose of Higher Education” Plenary Session. The conference is a collaboration of several organizations, including The Council of Independent Colleges. It addresses several issues of particular concern to independent colleges and universities and will include faculty members, administrators, student life professionals, and chaplains who will address the relationships between curriculum and values; intellectual, aesthetic, and moral intelligence; technical competency and compassionate action; critical reasoning and contemplative inquiry; and vocation and life purpose. |
