Birmingham-Southern students place at state MTNA competition

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Two Birmingham-Southern College students entered and placed at the state level of the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Competition held recently.

Jenna Lyle, a senior music major from Carrollton, Ga. and the daughter of Mike and Cathie Lyle, won first place in the composition competition and second place/first place alternate in the voice competition.

Shelby Bowling, a sophomore music major from Mobile and the daughter of Arthur Bowling, won first place in the voice competition.

Both women will go on to compete at the division level of competition in January at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla.

The MTNA Young Artist Competition requires an extensive repertoire equivalent to a 35-minute recital.
