Birmingham-Southern student selected as British Council USA Student Ambassador

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Lucia White, a senior music major at Birmingham-Southern College, has been chosen a 2006-07 British Council USA Student Ambassador. She is one of 69 college students nationwide selected to participate in this prestigious program to help foster understanding of United Kingdom educational and cultural opportunities.

This year's ambassadors hail from 57 different colleges. White is one of only 10 students selected from the South, and the only student chosen from the state of Alabama. She attended orientation recently in Anaheim, Calif., and is representing the British Council USA and U.K. Study Abroad at BSC during this school year.

White, a native of Huntsville, traveled to the United Kingdom for a semester to study diversity at Middlesex University in the Black London Summer School in the summer of 2005. Upon return to the U.S., she participated in a meeting with a grant founder that soon after awarded the BSC Office of International Programs with a grant to develop an introduction to international civil/human rights study. She is the daughter of Lucious White and Evelyn White.
