Birmingham-Southern College professor receives education award

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Dr. Bill Nicholas, a professor of history at Birmingham-Southern College, was presented with the second annual Outstanding Educator Award during the college's 2006 graduation ceremonies in May.

The award is given to an outstanding member of the BSC faculty based upon recommendations by his or her colleagues. It recognizes a faculty member who is characterized by excellence in all aspects of teaching, including classroom performance and student advising. The award includes a $2,500 cash stipend and an invitation to serve as speaker at the 2007 Commencement.

Nicholas, who joined the BSC faculty in 1972, received a bachelor's and a master's degree from Trinity University and a doctoral degree from Tulane University.
