Birmingham-Southern music student places in national choral composition contest

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Mary Elizabeth Neal, a graduating senior music major at Birmingham-Southern College, recently won third place in the fifth annual student NITLE composition competition for choral music. This year's competition was open to students at the 90 NITLE member schools.

As a winner in the competition, Neal will be an invited guest at the 2006 NITLE Music Technology Workshop and New Music Festival at Rollins College in June where her work will be performed and professionally recorded.

Neal, a native of Albertville, is the daughter of Donald and Kelley Neal. She will graduate from Birmingham-Southern May 27 with a bachelor of fine arts degree.

NITLE is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting liberal education. It provides opportunities for teachers in liberal arts contexts to create transformative learning experiences for and with their students by deploying emerging technologies in innovative, effective, and sustainable ways.
