Birmingham-Southern College Southern Chorale to present program dedicated to advancement of human dignity

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Southern Chorale of Birmingham-Southern College, under the direction of BSC Professor of Music Dr. David J. Smith, will perform “Change My Name” Monday, May 1, in Hill Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.  The public is cordially invited to attend, and admission is free.

The cantata, based on the words of Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman, will be presented by the Southern Chorale along with the BSC Gospel Choir and the Black Student Union.  Tubman and Truth were two courageous women who risked their lives by word and action to end slavery in the United States.  The program will also include spiritual arrangements by Moses Hogen and Paul Christiansen.

The concert is part of the college's continuing yearlong Sesquicentennial celebration.  For more information, call 205/226-4961.
