FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 16, 2006
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern College students are engaging in an alternative spring break trip to Moss Point, Miss., from March 25 to 31. A group of 18 students and BSC faculty will spend a week providing assistance to hurricane victims near Pascagoula, Miss.
The group will stay at Safe Harbor United Methodist Church and work with Rev. John Tucker, who has been coordinating work teams since the hurricanes last fall. Their scope of work will primarily include sheetrock installation and finish, painting, and some roof work.
The project is part of a “Week of Service” when BSC alumni nationwide and United Methodist churches within the Alabama and North Florida conferences will participate in service projects in their own local communities. A Week of Service is another event in the continuing yearlong Sesquicentennial celebration at the college.
