Award-winning Birmingham-Southern students to perform with local orchestra

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Three student winners of the sixth annual Whittington Competition at Birmingham-Southern College will perform with the Red Mountain Chamber Orchestra Feb. 19 in the college's Hill Recital Hall at 3 p.m.

The orchestra, led by BSC Music Professor Dr. Thomas Gibbs, will accompany the 2006 Whittington Competition winners, who are pianist Sirena Wang, a junior music major from Madison; vocalist Erin Wakeman, a senior voice major from Mobile; and vocalist Jenna Lyle, a junior music major from Carrollton, Ga.

The Whittington Competition is named for Frances and Dorsey Whittington, who were leaders of The Birmingham Conservatory of Music which later became the Music Department at Birmingham-Southern.
