Birmingham-Southern First Lady to perform for Washington Composers Forum TRANSPORT series, featuring premieres by BSC faculty

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern College First Lady and violinist Karen Bentley Pollick will perform a duet Feb. 12 with world renowned pianist Ivan Sokolov for the Washington Composers Forum TRANSPORT series. The concert, one of six this year, will take place at Consolidated Works in the Lake Union area of Seattle, Wash.

The “country-spanning program” will feature premieres chosen from calls for scores by composer and BSC Assistant Professor of Music Dorothy Hindman and composer and BSC Professor of Music Charles Norman Mason. Mason is spending the 2005-06 academic year in Rome as winner of the prestigious Samuel Barber Rome Prize in Musical Composition.

The featured selections of Hindman and Mason were chosen in preparation for a May 27 concert at the American Academy in Rome.
