Birmingham-Southern opens Southeastern Regional High School Juried Art Exhibition

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern College awarded prizes to 15 high school students and honorable mentions to 16 additional high school students at the Jan. 15 awards presentation of the annual Southeastern Regional High School Artist Competition.

The ceremony, which took place in the Norton Campus Center Theatre at Birmingham-Southern, opened the Juried Art Exhibition. About 140 pieces of original art from about 300 submitted entries will be on display through Jan. 27 in the Durbin Gallery Kennedy Art Center/Azar Art Studios. The exhibit will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. daily. Award winners each received a $100 cash prize.

Winners, listed alphabetically by high school, are:

BIRMINGHAM:
Alabama School of Fine Arts – Morgan Taylor Long, Instructor Randy Gachet; and Ian Scott, Instructor Darius Hill.

Hoover High School – Clark Andrews, Instructor James Knowles.

Shades Valley Visual Arts & Communications Academy – Jessica James, Alana Price and Diana Patterson, Instructor Olsen Ross.

Spain Park High School – Hunter K. Milling, Instructor Susan Ripp.

Vestavia High School – Erin Carter, Instructor Misty Graves.
