Birmingham-Southern to recognize high school artists, exhibit works of art

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Birmingham-Southern College will exhibit 140 pieces of original art, created by high school students from across the Southeast, Jan. 15-27 at the college's Durbin Gallery, Kennedy Art Center/Azar Art Studios.

Fifteen students will each receive a $100 cash award and 16 students will receive honorable mentions. An awards presentation will take place Jan. 15 at 2:30 p.m. in the Norton Campus Center Theatre. A reception will follow in the Durbin Gallery, Kennedy Art Center/Azar Art Studios from 3 to 5 p.m.

About 300 pieces of art from 34 high schools were submitted to the college's annual Southeastern Regional High School Artist Competition. Entries included drawings, paintings, photographs, and sculptures.

The competition accepted 140 pieces from the submitted entries to exhibit through Jan. 27 in the Durbin Gallery. The exhibit will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. daily.
