BIRMINGHAM , Ala.—The governing body of Birmingham-Southern College's seven national sororities has been awarded the highest award for scholarship in its category.
BSC's Panhellenic Council was presented with that group's Panhellenic Conference Scholarship Award during the conference this month in The Woodlands, Texas. The National Panhellenic Council is the national coordinating body for college and university panhellenic organizations.
Birmingham-Southern's Panhellenic Council was selected for the award from among all other colleges and universities in the U.S. having six to 10 national sororities on campus.
The award recognizes the college's panhellenic for the all-sorority average being significantly above the all-women's average for the previous year. It also commends the council for documentation of on-going programming to encourage scholarship and to enhance the academic mission of the college.
The BSC Panhellenic Council recorded a sorority Spring 2005 grade point average of 3.268. The National Panhellenic Council is made up of 26 national sororities.
