Miss BSC 2005 Kathryn Stewart Stokes of Huntsville crowned Gaines. Alexa Jones, Miss Alabama 2005 and a 2003 BSC graduate, was the pageant host.
Gaines also won the swimsuit competition and received the Neal and Anne Berte Community Service Award for her platform on the Make a Wish Foundation. Her talent was a vocal. She is the daughter of Tommy and Pamela Gaines of Heflin.
The Neal and Anne Berte Community Service Award is named in honor of the longtime BSC president, who now is chancellor, and his wife.
Carlon Alexandra, a junior dance education major from Muscle Shoals, was first runner-up to Miss BSC 2006. Her talent was tap dance and her platform was “Jewelers for Children: the Industry.” She is the daughter of Jan Carlon.
As part of the college's Sesquicentennial celebration, 32 former Miss BSC winners were invited back to be recognized at this year's pageant.
The Miss BSC Pageant is an official preliminary competition for the Miss Alabama Pageant scheduled for next June. Gaines will compete to become the 23rd Miss BSC since 1938 to also be crowned Miss Alabama. |
