Birmingham-Southern College music student to study in Czech Republic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern College student Mary Elizabeth Neal of Albertville has been selected to study music composition this summer at the 12th annual Czech-American Summer Music Institute in Prague, Czech Republic.

The CASMI is an international program of intensive study in music composition during which college students or graduates compose a piece of music, review their compositions, and learn about various aspects of the creative compositional process.

Admission is limited to 14 participants who attend eight master classes and four individual lessons. Participants also present their compositions at public concerts. The classes take place in the historical Prague Conservatory and concerts are presented in the Concert Hall of the Antonin Dvorak Museum.

Neal, a senior music major, will be in Prague July 1-21. She will study with Ladislav Kubik, a Florida State University music composition professor.

She is the daughter of Rev. Donald and Kelley Neal.
