Birmingham-Southern College alumna crowned Miss Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Alexa Jones of Andalusia, a 2003 graduate of Birmingham-Southern College and Miss Birmingham-Southern College 2003, was crowned Miss Alabama June 11.

Jones captured the title in her sixth year in the competition and competed in the pageant this year as Miss Mobile. She performed a ballet dance as her talent and won a swimsuit award in the preliminary competition.

A graduate student at UAB majoring in English, Jones will represent Alabama in the Miss America pageant in the fall. She also took home more than $13,000 in scholarship money.

As Miss Alabama, she will promote her platform, the Renaissance Foundation of Alabama, a nonprofit organization she founded in 1999 to enhance art education in schools by providing hands-on art experiences for students and making financial contributions to art education.
