Kappa Alpha fraternity at Birmingham-Southern to host benefit for muscular dystrophy

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Kappa Alpha fraternity at Birmingham-Southern College will host a benefit golf tournament on Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Highland Park Country Club to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Tee off times for the tournament will begin at 8 a.m. and it will end at noon. Registrants also will be able to win a broad range of prizes.

“Through hole sponsorship, silent auction, and donations, we hope to raise a total of $50,000 to present to MDA,” said George Malone, a BSC junior and Kappa Alpha member from Nashville who is coordinating the fund-raiser. “We believe it will only take a little involvement from a wide variety of people to reach our goal.”

Funds raised by the fraternity—the largest goal in the BSC chapter's history—will be donated directly to the MDA voluntary health agency, which since 1950 has led the way in working to defeat 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.

To register for the tournament, you may contact Malone at 615/500-2658.
