BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—A partnership between
Birmingham-Southern College and Bessemer City Schools will allow
future educators to
hone their teaching skills while enhancing the reading skills of
elementary school students, thanks to a grant from Energen/Alabama
Gas Corp.
The $15,000 grant will provide Birmingham-Southern education
majors with practical teaching experience while they assist the
reading program at Jonesboro Elementary
School.
“This partnership provides an excellent way for BSC students to learn to
be better teachers at the same time they are helping Bessemer students to be
more effective readers. Everyone benefits,” said Dr. Clint Bruess, BSC
professor of education and chair of the Division of Education.
The grant provides for supplies, books, and assistive technology
for the reading program and partnership. |
