FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 26, 2004
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern
College Concert Choir will present its annual Homecoming Concert
on Sunday, April
4, at 2:30 p.m. in the Hill Recital Hall on campus.
The program will include two major works. “Lux Aeterna,” composed
in 1966 by the Hungarian composer György Ligeti, is a choral tour de force
and one of the most important such works of the 20th century. It is perhaps
best known as part of the soundtrack to the film “2001: A Space Odyssey” directed
by Stanley Kubrick. “Fern Hill,” a setting of the poem of Dylan
Thomas by American composer John Corigliano, also will be preformed. Other
works on the program include selections by Mozart, Palestrina, and arrangements
of spirituals.
The concert is free and open to the public.
The BSC Concert Choir recently returned from its annual spring
break concert tour, which this year included performances in Montgomery,
Dothan, Pensacola,
Mobile, and other locations. All events are free and open to the public, with the exception
of the luncheon. To register for the luncheon or for other event
details, contact Domcekova
at 226-4975.
