Birmingham-Southern professor nominated for NCCJ community service award

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Dr. Ed LaMonte, Howell Heflin Professor of Political Science at Birmingham-Southern College, has been chosen to receive a Brotherhood/Sisterhood Award from the Alabama region of the National Conference for Community and Justice.

LaMonte was nominated by NCCJ board members in recognition of his long-standing work fighting for the mission of NCCJ, whose focus is to eliminate bias, bigotry, and racism.

“We honor Dr. LaMonte for significant contributions he has made toward community inclusiveness through both education and his continued involvement in the Birmingham community,” said Lamarse Washington, executive director of the NCCJ Alabama region.

LaMonte is among four Birmingham leaders who will receive the annual award at a March 4 banquet that will be held at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center complex.
