BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Dr. Ed LaMonte,
Howell Heflin Professor of Political Science at Birmingham-Southern
College, has been chosen
to receive a Brotherhood/Sisterhood Award from the Alabama region
of the National Conference for Community and Justice.
LaMonte was nominated by NCCJ board members in recognition of
his long-standing work fighting for the mission of NCCJ, whose
focus is to eliminate bias, bigotry,
and racism.
“We honor Dr. LaMonte for significant contributions he has made toward
community inclusiveness through both education and his continued involvement
in the Birmingham community,” said Lamarse Washington, executive director
of the NCCJ Alabama region.
LaMonte is among four Birmingham leaders who will receive the
annual award at a March 4 banquet that will be held at the Birmingham-Jefferson
Civic
Center complex.
