Longtime president to be saluted at Birmingham-Southern College Homecoming

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern College's 2004 Homecoming celebration is scheduled for Feb. 23-28 on campus and will honor longtime BSC Chancellor and President Dr. Neal R. Berte, who is retiring as president at the end of the current academic term.

“We look forward each February to this annual tradition,” said Alex Gresham, dean of students at BSC. “But this year's Homecoming events are particularly meaningful as we pay tribute to Dr. and Mrs. Berte for their 29 years of service to the college.”

Among the week's activities on campus are a spirit competition, Movie-Night-Out, sorority/ fraternity house decorating contest, and several prize give-a-ways for students.

A bonfire is planned for Thursday, Feb. 26, at 9 p.m. in the parking lot area of Bill Battle Coliseum.

The week will conclude Saturday, Feb. 28, with a men's basketball game against Big South Conference opponent Virginia Military Institute. The game begins at 7 p.m. in Bill Battle Coliseum. The 2004 BSC Homecoming Queen will be crowned during halftime. The Bertes also will be honored during the game by the student body.
