Southern financial aid administrators to hold free college financial aid fair

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Area high school seniors and their parents are invited to a free college financial aid fair Saturday, Feb. 14, courtesy of the members of the Southern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. The fair will be held at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center, East Ballroom A, from 1-4 p.m.

The free assistance will be provided by members of SASFAA who will be attending their regional conference in Birmingham. The financial aid administrators are from colleges in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

According to SASFAA regional president and Birmingham-Southern College Director of Student Financial Aid Services Ron Day, there will be a 1 p.m. information session about applying for financial aid, followed by hands-on assistance by the financial aid professionals.

“Students and their parents will learn how to file the free application for federal student aid, which is required by most colleges when applying for all scholarships,” Day said.

Parents are encouraged to attend with the students and to bring their 2003 income information such as tax returns and Social Security benefit statements. Those attending may register to win a $750 scholarship to be used at the college of their choice.
