BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern College Chancellor
and President Dr. Neal R. Berte was presented with Operation New
Birmingham's Lifetime Achievement Award at the organization's
annual meeting in November at the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham.
Berte was presented the award by last
year's Lifetime Achievement
Award recipient Wallace Malone, chairman and chief executive officer
of SouthTrust
Corporation.
In his 28th year as president of Birmingham-Southern, Berte recently
announced his plans to retire in spring 2004.
Operation New Birmingham is a public-private
partnership promoting Birmingham's
city center for business, living, and the arts and entertainment. It
also promotes communication, understanding, and harmony among the
diverse racial and ethnic
groups in the Birmingham community.
Berte is a member of ONB's Board
of Directors.
