BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern College student Robby
Simpson of Vestavia Hills was second-place winner in the second
annual student composition competition sponsored by The Orpheus
Alliance, the music collaborative of the Associated Colleges of
the South. He won for his composition “Pandora Doesn't
Live,” a solo piece for cello and voice.
As a winner, Simpson will be in a group of nine student composers
who will participate in the ACS New Music Festival and Workshop
at Southwestern University
July 16-22. Performances of their works will be available in streaming audio
on the music website www.colleges.org/~music immediately after the workshop.
Simpson, a senior music major, is the son of Jennifer Harvey
of Vestavia Hills and Daniel Simpson of Hoover. As a student at
Birmingham-Southern, he studies
with BSC Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Dorothy Hindman and BSC Professor
of Music Dr. Charles Mason |
