BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Twenty-eight Birmingham-Southern
College graduating seniors have been elected to Phi Beta Kappa
membership
this spring.
Phi Beta Kappa typically recognizes senior college
students who are in the upper 10 percent of their class. Election
is based on
academic achievement and demonstration of excellence in the liberal
arts and sciences. Phi Beta Kappa is the nation's oldest and
most prestigious academic honor society. Birmingham-Southern serves
as a Phi Beta Kappa sheltering institution.
The students, listed by hometown, are: ANNISTON: Joseph Chandler, a psychology major and the son of Jerry
and Kathy Chandler.
BIRMINGHAM Area:
Hoover/Vestavia: Rachel Higgins of Hoover, an
art major and the daughter of Norman and Darlene Higgins, and Sudeep
Xavier of Hoover, a biology/psychology
major and the son of Narithookil and Anne Xavier. North/East: Jennifer Compton of Gardendale, a psychology major
and the daughter of Alfred and Judy Compton; Mary Gilmer of Trussville,
a biology major and the daughter of Philip and Pamela Gilmer; and
Daniel Gleason of Irondale, a philosophy major and the son of Russell
and Maureen Gleason.
CLINTON, Tenn.: Matthew Carter, a math major and the son of Dr.
Charles and Ann Carter.
COLUMBUS, Miss.: Evelyn Coleman, a religion/psychology major and
the daughter of Geraldine Coleman.
DECATUR: Scott Asher, a math major and the son of Terry and Paula
Asher.
DYERSBURG, Tenn.: Brooxie Carlton, a psychology/sociology major
and the daughter of Sherry Guthrie.
FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla.: Ashley Zerull of Shalimar, a psychology/sociology
major and the daughter of Robert and Sheri Zerull.
FRANKLIN, Tenn.: Robert Frohock, an economics
major and the son of Mark and Tillie Frohock.

Mary Snell of Attalla, a biology major and the daughter of Royce
and Donna Snell, and Tyler Stracener of Rainbow City,
a biology major and the son of Bueran and Tina Stracener. HARTSELLE: Matthew Emerson, a computer science major and the son
of Joel and Mary Emerson.
HUNTSVILLE: Melanie Barnhart, a biology major and the daughter
of David and Donna Barnhart; Julia Hyland, a biology major and
the daughter of Thomas and Marilyn Hyland; and Victor Vasile, a
political science major and the son of Col. Robert and Catherine
Vasile.
JACKSON, Tenn.: Nicholas Gaskill, an English major and the son
of K.W. and Marsha Gaskill.
JACKSONVILLE: Kimberly Reid, a biology major and the daughter
of Marcus and Elizabeth Reid.
JUNCTION CITY, Kan.: Carissa Mangus of Dwight, a biology major
and the daughter of Leslie and Debra Mangus.
MARYVILLE, Tenn.: Kerri Fox, a Spanish major and the daughter
of Joe and Jill Fox.
MONTGOMERY: Vanessa Brunn, an accounting major and the daughter
of Herbert and Mary Brunn; Barrett Cary, a math major and the son
of Ruth Dahlene; and Evan Milligan, a religion major and the son
of William Milligan and Claire Sams-Milligan.
MURFREESBORO, Tenn.: Jennifer Carter, a psychology major and the
daughter of Frank and Kay Carter.
