Birmingham-Southern professor awarded grant, contributes to encyclopedia

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Dr. Dorothy Hindman, assistant professor of music at Birmingham-Southern College, was awarded a grant through the Meet the Composer/South program to support a recent composer's visit to the college. The grant was funded by the Southern Arts Federation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and was used to bring composer Henry Mollicone, a Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow, to the BSC campus.

Hindman also is a contributing author for the newly released Women and Music in America Since 1900: an Encyclopedia.

Joining the BSC faculty in 2000, she received her master's degree from Duke University and her doctorate from the University of Miami, Coral Gables.
